Proud Mary by Tina Turner

Introducing Tina Turner And Proud Mary

If you think Tina Turner, the most iconic song of hers is the now legendary version of the Creedence Clearwater Revival hit Proud Mary, and if you have ever seen Tina Turner strutting across the stage belting out a performance of this song, it's something not easily forgotten.

Needless to say this song is on the playlist for all of Tina Turner's live shows.

Originally written by John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival and released by them in 1969, Proud Mary is still one of the greatest hits by the band.

Tina Turner did her first cover of this as a duet with her then husband Ike Turner in 1971, and it was released as a single off their "Workin' Together" album, reaching #4 in the pop charts.

Tina Turner's working of this song is very different to the original Creedence one, starting off slow, almost like a ballard, and then exploding into a true rock song that has everyone up and on their feet.

After some early successes in the 1970s with her husband Ike, things fell apart due to his drug abuse and physical abuse, however it wasn't long before Tina's solo career took off big time.

In 1975 she released her first solo album titled "Acid Queen" which was timed to release with the movie version of "Tommy" by The Who, in which she played and sang the "Acid Queen".

The early 1980s saw her return to fame with some great concert performances, and songs like What's Love Got To Do With It, Let's Stay Together and Private Dancer.

So sit back, crank up the volume, hit play on some of the videos below, and sing along to Tina Turner and her classic hit "Proud Mary".

Song Lyrics: Proud Mary by Tina Turner

Proud Mary - Tina Turner from the album "Workin' Together" 1971

Left a good job in the city

Workin' for the Man every night and day

But I never lost a minute of sleepin'

Worryin' 'bout the way things might have been

[chorus]

Big wheel keep on turnin'

Proud Mary keep on burnin'

Rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river

Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis

Pumped a lot of tane down in New Orleans

But I never saw the good side of a city

'Til I hitched a ride on the riverboat queen

[repeat chorus]

If you come down to the River

Bet you're gonna find some people who live

You don't have to worry 'cause you have no money

People on the river are happy to give

[repeat chorus]
